“Having my implants here was the best thing I have ever done after having a plate which I hated. The care throughout the procedure was exceptional. I was put at ease throughout as I was rather scared, but I needn’t have been. They look and feel like my own teeth.”

– M. Hayter, Hengoed

“Owen is an excellent dentist. He fitted implants 12 month’s ago, perfect no problems at all. Nicola is excellent, pain free and lovely with it. All dental staff are superb, kind and efficient.”

– J. Bernard, Sully

“Have been a patient of the practice for many years now and have always received excellent service. The team are extremely professional and friendly and it’s never a “scary” experience. Looking forward to my next visit.”

– N.P, Cardiff, December 2016

What are Dental implants?

Implants are one way of replacing missing teeth. A titanium screw is planted in the jawbone which acts like the root of a natural tooth. A tooth coloured crown/bridge or denture is then attached over the top of the screw. This gives the appearance of natural teeth.

Benefits at a glance

Who are implants suitable for?

Implants are suitable for patients with one or more missing permanent teeth.

Can implants always be used to replace missing teeth?

It depends on the condition of the bone in your jaw. If there is not enough it is sometimes possible to use a bone graft or synthetic bone.

Does implant treatment hurt?

Most of our patients report little discomfort after having an implant. Before placing an implant a local anaesthetic is given so that you will not feel any pain. You may feel some discomfort during the week after the surgery.

If you are nervous or anxious about having treatment or if it is a complicated case, we may be able to offer you sedation.

What happens after the implant has been placed?

The bone in your jaw needs to grow onto and fuse with the surface of the implant. This healing phase usually takes around 8 weeks.

You may have a temporary denture whilst waiting for your implants to heal. If you already have dentures, you can keep wearing these.

After the healing phase you will have appointments to take impressions. The dental technicians can then construct the permanent crown/bridge or denture ready to fit.
